3 Ways to Create Your Own Decorative Concrete Driveways Easily

If you have been debating whether to upgrade your driveway from a gravel or simple paved design, but don't know which way to go, decorative concrete may be ideal. Decorative concrete driveways may seem out of financial reach at first, but if you consider a few methods to create your own, you could save a good deal of money and still achieve the results you want. Here are three ways to create your own decorative concrete driveways easily.

Concrete Stamps

One of the easiest ways for you to design your own decorative concrete driveway is to use a concrete stamp. These stamps are made of resin or plastic and come in a variety of designs including cobblestone and brick patterns. You will need to have a concrete contractor pour the driveway for you to ensure that you have an even driveway with no cracks or foundation issues. While the concrete is still wet, you can take the concrete stamps and begin placing them on the driveway. With these stamps, you simply press them into the driveway about an inch and pull them back up. The design is left and will take hold as the concrete dries.

Decorative Concrete Brick

If you want the border of the driveway to have the decorative look, you can choose decorative concrete brick. These bricks can be placed along the borders of the driveway to create a decorative design that fits your landscaping needs. This is an ideal option if you want a smooth driveway but to have a special touch to help your landscaping stand-out. You can choose smaller cobblestone size brick or larger paving bricks that have knotwork design or other designs such as pressed leaves or Greek key motifs.

If you choose this option, you may want to check with your contractor and ensure that there will be no washout between the bricks and the driveway. They may be able to help you come up with a plan to reduce washout or connect the bricks to the driveway so there is no space between the two for rain to absorb and cause issues.

Concrete Brick Forms

Concrete brick forms are different from stamps. The brick forms allow you to pour concrete directly into the slot and create bricks while the stamp is shallow and only allows you to create the design on the pre-poured concrete. If you go with brick forms, you can place your own concrete driveway, but you will be spending more time since brick forms are smaller and only do portions of the driveway. You will also need some knowledge about placing the borders of the driveway and any foundation that may be needed. Ideally, this is an option for someone with previous concrete experience.

With the right tools, such as the concrete stamps or forms, you can create any pattern you want. If you find that the pattern isn't turning out like you like it, consider contacting your contractor for professional assistance.
